Choose more foods with a lower glycemic index. The glycemic index (GI) measures how quickly a carbohydrate-containing food will raise your blood sugar.

Foods with a high GI raise your blood sugar faster than foods with a medium or low GI. It’s best to choose foods that have a low or medium GI — beans, legumes, and non-starchy vegetables, a few starchy vegetables including sweet potatoes, and some fruits.

And make sure to avoid sugar-laden and processed foods such as white bread, pasta, cookies, crackers, and the like. Besides being unhealthy in general, they are high-glycemic index foods.

Tip #4: Manage Your Stress Level

Stress plays a role in blood sugar imbalance. In addition, stress promotes weight gain and contributes to improper inflammatory response. You might join a gentle yoga class, learn meditation or relaxation techniques, and look for ways to laugh every day.
